One Direction’s new single, Drag Me Down is making $21K a day on spotify

Despite new songs typically needing more time to climb the Spotify charts, Drag Me Down’s performance after being released on Friday (July 31) puts it comfortably ahead of established hits Lean On by Major Lazer (2.6m daily streams) and Can’t Feel My Face by The Weeknd (2.4m).

Drag Me Down is very much ‘one to watch’ on Spotify: not only did the band push fans direct to the Swedish streaming service on their social channels on Friday (as well as iTunes, where it also currently tops the chart) but a quick search for the track on YouTube yields little but bedroom cover versions and vlogger discussion.

This is significant, as it suggests that team 1D, across Modest! Management and Syco/Sony, is carefully orchestrating something of an experiment: a Spotify-led day one streaming campaign, tied with careful monitoring and take-down of UGC activity on YouTube.

Meanwhile, Spotify is doing its part, heavily promoting the track worldwide with a prominent banner ad on the ‘Browse’ area of the platform, as well as major playlisting support and regular social posts.

Salman Khan's Bajrangi Bhaijaan has Rs 292.23 cr at the Indian box office, all-time blockbuster.

Salman Khan's Bajrangi Bhaijaan, which hit the screens on July 17 this year, is a storm that is rocking the box office and how! In its third week now, this Kabir Khan directorial has netted Rs 292.23 crore in India itself, a figure that has earned it the tag of an 'all-time blockbuster'.

The film, which crossed the Rs 100-crore mark in its first three days itself (India collections), is still pretty strong at the box office. After Bajrangi Bhaijaan, films like Masaan and Drishyam have hit the screens, but Salman fans are still flocking to the theatres to catch a show of his Eid release. The film opened to mixed-to-positive reviews from critics and huge numbers at the theatres. It has fared well overseas too.

The Bajrangi Bhaijaan fever has gripped audiences in Pakistan, and thanks to the positive Indo-Pak message in the movie, the Salman Khan-starrer has received phenomenal response, with people thronging to watch the film even a week after its release. Theatre owners claim to have witnessed a record number of people leaving cinema halls misty-eyed after watching the movie, about a Bajrangbali (Hanuman) devotee Pawan Kumar Chaturvedi's (played by Salman) journey from India to escort a six-year-old mute Pakistani girl back to her village.
