Jon Snow's alive? Rumors abound after Kit Harington photographed in Belfast.
Jon Snow, whose death was one of the most talked about incidents of season five on Game of Thrones, may return to the show.
It’s been more than a month since the season finale of this year’s Game of Thrones aired and fans of the show are still reeling over the supposed death of beloved character Jon Snow. As someone who is both a big fan of the show and the books, I remain highly skeptical that Snow is really dead in the same way that Ned Stark, Joffrey Baratheon and Robb Stark are. I’ll lay out all the evidence why I think Snow is still alive below.
First of all, Kit Harrington, the actor who plays Snow, has been spotted in Belfast this week, which just happens to be where the sixth season of the show is starting filming. Harrington also still has the trademark long hair and beard that are iconic features of Snow’s character and we can’t imagine him wanting to keep all that hair on in the middle of summer if he doesn’t have to.
One of the newly announced filming locations, the Castillo de Zafra in Guadalajara, Spain, resembles the Tower of Joy from the books. If the Castillo de Zafra indeed serves as a stand-in for the Tower of Joy, it will likely be featured in a flashback..
Watchers on the Wall recently reported that the show’s casting an unnamed “legendary fighter” described as “a man in his thirties or forties who is a great swordsman and a paragon of knighthood. He carries a hugely famous sword on his back. The show is seeking a very impressive swordsman for the role — the best in Europe, for a week of filming fight scenes for a season 6 role.
The description reminds the book readers of Arthur Dayne aka the Sword of the Morning, who was a Kingsguard knight under the Mad King and one of Rhaegar Targaryen’s closest friends. He was considered one of the greatest warriors in the Seven Kingdoms before he died at the Tower of Joy.
Should the show confirm fan theory about Snow’s parents, it is believed that the show will not go this far and dig into the circumstances of his birth only to keep him dead.
Thus, it is believed that Jon will have a presence in season six since he is the only major character alive who is related to an event in the Tower of Joy.
Filming for the sixth season of Game of Thrones is scheduled to begin this month for a 2016 premiere.Actor Kit Harington played Snow on the fantasy drama.
